Our History

In the spring of 1994, a nervous church planter met with a group of ten people at a picnic shelter in Barber Park to talk about the possibility of forming a new church in an under-served corner of East Boise. Over the past 25 years, God has done amazing things at Eastwind Community Church.

God has built a culture of community that is accepting and offers a sense of belonging. A culture where small groups do life together, supporting each other emotionally, financially and spiritually.

God has used Eastwind to reach people through engaging the real Jesus, experiencing his presence in our lives, and allowing those encounters to shape how we see the world and our stories within it.

Our staff pours themselves into ministry for children and youth. We inspire our young people to make courageous choices for the kingdom, to be people of conviction and compassion, and to live their lives in service to Christ. The foundations that have been laid here will continue to make a difference in the years to come.

Eastwind has made a difference locally throughout the Treasure Valley. We have been involved in our most under-resourced schools, our nearby migrant worker camps, and with the many refugees that have come to our city in recent years. Boise’s well-known Create Common Good program was born in this congregation, and has become an international model for community gardening, refugee placement and local compassion.

Globally, Eastwind has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in clean water projects for Kenya, Mexico, and Guatemala; in academic sponsorships for over 250 impoverished Kenyan children; and in the construction of classrooms and computer centers for students. Over 300 members of our body have traveled to Kenya, Guatemala, or Mexico through the years and have witnessed many transformed lives.

In 2018, Eastwind’s founding pastor, Mark Traylor, retired and introduced us to a new lead pastor, Jeremy Graves. In 2019 Jeremy stepped down to plant a new church and Eastwind is so grateful to announce our new Lead Pastor, Carlos DeVitis who will lead us all in the next chapter.

Eastwind believes that everyone has the right know the real Jesus. We also believe that your story matters, and hope that it will be a part of the future of Eastwind and what God is doing in East Boise. All are welcome!
